DeleteEloise says after the dinner with Mona and Naomi, "That's what we do when no one is talking. We converse." (p.183) Does Mona every find herself conversing, but not talking and why? (To blend in? To stand out?)
ReplyDeleteWhen Callie draws attention to the idea that Mona's parents may have looked down on themselves even when they weren't the minority back in China, how do you think Mona feels about that? How does that change her outlook on her choices and the personality of her parents?
ReplyDeleteWhat was the point of this section being solely devoted to the interactions between the young characters who have or are in the process of distancing themselves from their parents? Does it seem as if they want to separate themselves, or is it that eventually their desires for themselves clashed with their parents's desires for them, so they had no other choice but to separate?
